Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the post-wise academic, age and sports eligibility conditions specified by CLW. Merely possessing an educational qualification will not be sufficient unless the candidate also holds the required sports credentials.

Educational Qualification

  • The minimum qualification may begin from Class 10 or an equivalent examination for eligible lower-level posts.
  • For certain posts or pay levels, candidates may be required to have passed Class 12 from a recognised board.
  • Posts in higher pay levels may require a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or institution.
  • Applicants must possess valid sports achievements in the relevant discipline at the level prescribed in the recruitment notification.
  • Educational and sports certificates should have been issued by recognised boards, universities, federations or competent sporting authorities.
  • Candidates must check the post-wise qualification and sports norms in the official PDF before applying.

Age Limit

  • The usual age band for recruitment under the Railway Sports Quota is 18 to 25 years, subject to confirmation in the CLW notification.
  • Age will be calculated with reference to the cut-off date specified by the recruiting authority.
  • Candidates should not assume that standard category-based age relaxation applies, as Sports Quota recruitments may have separate rules.
  • Documentary proof of date of birth must be enclosed with the application.

Fees

  • The application fee, category-wise concessions and payment method will be governed by the official notification.
  • Concessional fee provisions may apply to eligible SC, ST, women, minority and economically backward-class candidates, where permitted.
  • Candidates should retain the original fee-payment receipt or instrument, if a fee is prescribed.
  • Applications submitted with an incorrect fee or through an unauthorised payment mode may be rejected.

Selection Process

The recruitment process is expected to assess both sporting ability and eligibility for appointment in Indian Railways. The broad stages are:

  1. Application and document scrutiny: CLW will examine applications, educational records, age proof, sports certificates, category documents and fee details. Incomplete or ineligible applications may be rejected at this stage.
  2. Sports trial and assessment: Shortlisted candidates will be called for trials in the relevant sports discipline. Performance, game skill, physical fitness and recognised sports achievements may be considered while preparing the merit list.
  3. Document verification and medical examination: Provisionally selected candidates will undergo verification of original certificates and the prescribed Railway medical fitness examination before appointment.

Candidates must note that selection will be based on merit under the Sports Quota rules. Participation in a trial does not create an automatic right to appointment.
