Overview
The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the CSIR UGC NET June 2026 answer key on August 16, 2026, for candidates who appeared in the computer-based examination. The examination determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor and admission to PhD programmes in science subjects; no fixed number of vacancies has been announced because it is an eligibility test rather than a direct recruitment drive.
Candidates can access the answer key, question paper and recorded responses through the official examination portal. They should verify each response carefully and submit challenges within the deadline displayed in the candidate login.

Educational Qualification
- Candidates should possess a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in the relevant science subject with at least 55% marks from a recognised university or institution.
- Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, Persons with Disabilities and other eligible reserved categories generally require at least 50% marks, subject to the official rules.
- Applicants with a four-year bachelor’s degree may be considered for JRF and PhD admission, subject to the prescribed minimum marks and eligibility conditions. Such candidates may not be eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor solely on that basis.
- Candidates awaiting the final result of their qualifying degree may apply provisionally, but they must complete the degree within the period prescribed by NTA.
- Eligibility must be checked carefully for the relevant subject: Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences or Physical Sciences.
Age Limit
- For Junior Research Fellowship, the upper age limit is generally 30 years as calculated under the notification’s cut-off-date rules.
- Relaxation of up to five years is normally available to women, SC, ST and PwD candidates, while OBC-NCL candidates may receive relaxation as prescribed.
- There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility.
- PhD admission eligibility is also governed by the conditions stated in the examination bulletin.

- General category: ₹1,150
- General-EWS/OBC-NCL: ₹600

Selection Process
- Computer-Based Examination: Candidates take the CSIR UGC NET paper for their selected science subject. Performance is evaluated under the applicable marking and negative-marking scheme.
- Answer Key Review: NTA publishes the provisional answer key, question paper and recorded responses. Candidates may challenge disputed answers by uploading supporting documents and paying the processing fee.
- Final Answer Key and Result: Subject experts review the objections. The final answer key is then used to calculate scores and determine eligibility for JRF, Assistant Professor or PhD admission.
