Overview

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has released the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) 2026 notification for candidates seeking eligibility for appointment as Assistant Professors in universities and colleges across Karnataka. KSET is an eligibility examination and not a direct recruitment drive; therefore, no fixed number of vacancies has been advertised through this notification.

Candidates should read the official information bulletin carefully before applying, particularly the provisions relating to postgraduate marks, subject selection, reservation and examination fees.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must hold a master’s degree or an equivalent postgraduate qualification from a university or institution recognised by the University Grants Commission.
  • General and other unreserved candidates are normally required to have secured at least 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying postgraduate examination.
  • Candidates belonging to eligible reserved categories, including SC, ST and specified disability categories, are generally required to secure at least 50% marks, subject to the conditions in the official notification.
  • Candidates awaiting their final postgraduate result may be permitted to apply provisionally. Their eligibility will remain subject to obtaining the required marks within the period prescribed by KEA.
  • Applicants should ordinarily select the KSET subject corresponding to their postgraduate discipline. Where an exact subject is unavailable, candidates must follow the subject-equivalence directions provided in the notification.
  • KSET is conducted across notified subjects in the humanities, social sciences, commerce, management, education, law, languages and science streams. The complete subject list and codes are available in the official bulletin.

Age Limit

  • There is generally no upper age limit for appearing in KSET.
  • Qualifying the examination does not itself guarantee appointment or override the age, qualification or service rules of a recruiting university or college.
  • Candidates must satisfy any separate age conditions prescribed when applying for an Assistant Professor vacancy.

Fees

  • The examination fee varies by category and must be paid through the online method specified by KEA.
  • Candidates should check the notification for the General, reserved-category and PwD fee amounts applicable for KSET 2026.
  • Bank, payment gateway or service charges may be collected separately.
  • A late fee may apply if KEA provides an extended registration window.
  • The application will not be treated as complete until the payment status is successfully updated. Fees are generally non-refundable.

Selection Process

  1. Paper I: Candidates will take a general paper designed to assess teaching and research aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension, communication, data interpretation and awareness of higher education.
  2. Paper II: The second paper will test subject-specific knowledge based on the discipline selected in the online application. Candidates must appear in both papers in the same examination session.
  3. Result and Eligibility Certificate: KEA will evaluate candidates under the prescribed minimum-mark and category-wise qualifying criteria. Successful candidates will be declared KSET qualified and become eligible to apply for Assistant Professor positions, subject to individual recruitment rules and document verification.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official KEA website at cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea and open the KSET 2026 section.
  2. Download the notification and verify the qualification, category, subject code, examination centre instructions and required documents.
  3. Select the online application link and complete registration using an active mobile number and email address.
  4. Enter personal, communication and academic details exactly as recorded in official certificates. Candidates should take particular care while choosing their KSET subject and reservation category.
  5. Upload a recent photograph, signature and other required documents in the prescribed file format and size.
  6. Review the form before final submission. Incorrect subject, category or qualification details may affect eligibility and might not be editable later.
  7. Pay the applicable examination fee using the available online payment facility and wait for confirmation.
  8. Download the submitted application form and fee receipt. Keep both documents safely for admission-ticket download, examination-day requirements and future verification.
