Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility requirements are different for every examination included in the NTA calendar. Applicants must read the examination-specific bulletin because qualification, subject combination, passing year and institution requirements may apply.
Educational Qualification
- JEE Main: Candidates should have passed or be appearing in the Class 12 or equivalent examination with the required subject combination. Admission rules of participating engineering and architecture institutes will also apply.
- NIFT Entrance Examination: For undergraduate programmes, applicants generally need Class 12 or an equivalent qualification. Postgraduate programmes require an eligible bachelor’s degree or other programme-specific qualification.
- CMAT: Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Final-year undergraduate students may apply subject to completing their degree within the prescribed period.
- CUET PG: Candidates must possess or be completing a bachelor’s degree that meets the requirements of the university and postgraduate course selected.
- UGC NET: Applicants generally require a master’s degree with the prescribed percentage. The usual qualifying benchmark is 55% for unreserved candidates, with relaxation for eligible reserved categories, subject to the current bulletin.
Age Limit
- Age rules vary by examination and programme.
- JEE Main, CMAT and CUET PG generally do not impose a common upper age limit, though universities and participating institutions may have their own conditions.
- For UGC NET, the Junior Research Fellowship category has a prescribed upper age limit with applicable relaxations. There is generally no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility.
- NIFT applicants must check programme-specific age requirements in the admission prospectus.
- The detailed 2026-27 information bulletin will be final in case of any change.
Fees
- The application fee will be announced separately for each examination.
- Fees may differ based on category, gender, number of papers, examination city and whether the test centre is in India or abroad.
- Payment is generally accepted online through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI.
- Bank or payment gateway charges may apply in addition to the examination fee.
Selection Process
- Online registration and eligibility verification: Candidates must register for the relevant examination, enter personal and academic details, upload documents and pay the applicable fee.
- Computer-based or prescribed entrance test: Eligible applicants will appear for the examination in the mode, city and shift mentioned on their admit card.
- Result, counselling or eligibility declaration: NTA will publish scores or eligibility status. Admission, counselling, seat allocation or fellowship selection will then be handled under the rules of the relevant institutions and authorities.
