Overview

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will publish the UGC NET June 2026 cut-off for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professor eligibility and admission to PhD programmes. UGC NET is an eligibility examination, not a direct recruitment drive; therefore, no fixed number of posts or vacancies is notified.

The cut-off PDF will contain subject-wise and category-wise marks for General, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD candidates. Applicants should distinguish the minimum qualifying marks from the final cut-off, which may be higher depending on subject, category and overall performance.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must hold a master’s degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised university or institution.
  • General and General-EWS candidates ordinarily require at least 55% marks in the qualifying postgraduate examination.
  • OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD and eligible third-gender candidates ordinarily require at least 50% marks.
  • Candidates appearing in the final year of their master’s programme may apply provisionally, subject to fulfilling the prescribed conditions within the stipulated period.
  • The candidate should generally select a NET subject related to the discipline studied at the postgraduate level.
  • Applicants must check the June 2026 information bulletin for subject-specific provisions and exemptions.

Age Limit

  • For Junior Research Fellowship, the upper age limit will be specified in the June 2026 bulletin; category and other permissible relaxations will apply under UGC rules.
  • There is generally no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility.
  • Candidates applying for PhD admission through UGC NET should review the applicable university and UGC admission rules.
  • The cut-off date used to calculate age will be stated in the official notification.

Fees

  • There is no fee to download or check the UGC NET cut-off PDF.
  • Examination application fees for General, EWS/OBC-NCL, SC/ST/PwD and third-gender candidates will be listed in the June 2026 information bulletin.
  • Processing charges and applicable taxes may be payable in addition to the examination fee.
  • Candidates should not use fee figures from an earlier cycle without verifying the current bulletin.

Selection Process

  1. Computer-Based Test: Candidates appear for Paper I and Paper II in a single examination session. Paper I assesses teaching and research aptitude, while Paper II covers the chosen subject.
  2. Minimum Qualifying Marks and Merit: Candidates must secure the prescribed aggregate minimum. The usual benchmark is 40% for General/General-EWS candidates and 35% for reserved categories in both papers taken together, subject to the official 2026 rules.
  3. Subject and Category-Wise Cut-Off: NTA prepares separate cut-offs for JRF, Assistant Professor and PhD admission categories. Merely obtaining the minimum marks does not guarantee qualification, as the final cut-off can be higher.
