The Oriental Insurance Company Limited (OICL) has outlined the OICL Assistant Syllabus 2026 and exam pattern for candidates preparing for its Assistant recruitment examination. The recruitment drive covers 500 Assistant posts, with selection conducted through preliminary and main examinations followed by a Regional Language Test.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12 with at least 60% marks from a recognised board. The minimum is 50% marks for SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates.
  • Applicants holding a graduation degree from a recognised university are also eligible.
  • Candidates must have passed English as a subject at the SSC, HSC, intermediate or graduation level.
  • Knowledge of the regional language of the state or Union Territory applied for is mandatory.
  • Eligibility must be fulfilled by the cut-off date specified in the detailed recruitment notification.

Age Limit

  • The normal age limit is 21 to 30 years as of the prescribed cut-off date.
  • Relaxation in the upper age limit is available to SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, ex-servicemen and other eligible categories under government rules.
  • Applicants must submit valid certificates to claim age relaxation or reservation benefits.

Fees

  • SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates: ₹100, including applicable charges.
  • All other candidates: ₹850, including applicable charges.
  • Transaction or payment gateway charges, if any, may be collected separately by the bank.
  • The application fee is generally non-refundable once paid.

OICL Assistant Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The preliminary examination carries 100 marks, while the main examination is conducted for 250 marks. For every incorrect answer in the objective tests, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.

The total duration of the main examination is 120 minutes, with sectional timings prescribed by OICL.

Subject-Wise Syllabus

  • Reasoning: Coding-decoding, inequalities, syllogism, puzzles, seating arrangements, blood relations, direction sense, ranking, data sufficiency and input-output.
  • English Language: Reading comprehension, cloze test, error detection, sentence improvement, fillers, vocabulary, para jumbles and grammar.
  • Numerical Ability: Simplification, number series, percentages, averages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, time and work, time and distance, interest and data interpretation.
  • General Awareness: Current affairs, insurance awareness, banking and financial awareness, economic developments, government schemes and static general knowledge.
  • Computer Knowledge: Computer fundamentals, hardware and software, operating systems, MS Office, internet, networking, cyber security and basic computer abbreviations.

Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Examination: A qualifying online test assessing English, reasoning and numerical ability.
  2. Main Examination: Shortlisted candidates take the objective main examination, whose scores are considered for merit.
  3. Regional Language Test: Candidates shortlisted after the main examination must demonstrate proficiency in the relevant regional language. This stage is qualifying in nature.

  1. Visit the official OICL website and open the Recruitment/Careers section.
  2. Select the OICL Assistant recruitment link and read the detailed notification carefully.
  3. Complete the online registration using an active mobile number and email address.
  4. Enter personal, educational, category and communication details exactly as shown on official documents.
  5. Upload the photograph, signature, handwritten declaration and other required documents in the prescribed format.
  6. Select the preferred state or Union Territory and examination centre carefully, as changes may not be allowed later.
  7. Pay the application fee online using the available payment options.
  8. Review the form, submit it and save a copy of the confirmation page and fee receipt.
