Overview

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the examination schedule for the Combined Graduate Level Examination (SSC CGL) 2026 Tier 1. The computer-based examination is expected to be conducted during May-June 2026, while the detailed shift-wise schedule and admit card updates will be published separately. The total number of Group B and Group C vacancies has not yet been announced and will be confirmed through the detailed recruitment notification.

SSC CGL is conducted for recruitment to posts such as Assistant Section Officer, Inspector, Auditor, Accountant, Tax Assistant, Junior Statistical Officer and other graduate-level positions in central government ministries and departments.

Candidates should note that the examination window may be revised due to administrative requirements. The final date, reporting time, examination city and shift will be mentioned on the application status page and SSC CGL Tier 1 admit card.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or equivalent institution by the qualification cut-off date specified in the notification.
  • For most SSC CGL posts, a degree in any discipline is accepted.
  • Candidates applying for Junior Statistical Officer and certain statistical posts must meet the additional Mathematics or Statistics requirements prescribed by SSC.
  • Applicants awaiting their final degree result must possess the required qualification on or before the official eligibility cut-off date.
  • Post-wise qualifications should be verified carefully before submitting preferences.

Age Limit

  • The minimum age is generally 18 years.
  • Depending on the post, the upper age limit may be 27 years, 30 years or 32 years.
  • Age will be calculated as on the date specified in the detailed SSC CGL 2026 notification.
  • Relaxation in the upper age limit will be available to SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, eligible ex-servicemen and other notified categories under central government rules.

Fees

  • General, OBC and EWS male candidates are generally required to pay an application fee of ₹100.
  • Women, SC, ST, PwBD and eligible ex-servicemen candidates are normally exempt from paying the fee.
  • Payment can be completed online using UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking.
  • Candidates must retain the payment confirmation until the recruitment process is completed.

Selection Process

  1. Tier 1 Computer-Based Examination: Candidates will answer objective questions covering General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension.
  2. Tier 2 Computer-Based Examination: Shortlisted candidates will take the post-specific Tier 2 papers. Paper I is compulsory, while additional papers may apply to statistical or finance-related posts.
  3. Document Verification and Final Appointment: Eligibility documents, category certificates and post preferences will be checked before final selection. Medical or physical standards may apply to designated posts.

SSC applies normalisation where an examination is conducted in multiple shifts. Candidates should also review the negative-marking provisions given in the official examination notice.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the SSC portal at ssc.gov.in and open the login or registration section.
  2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) using an active mobile number, email address and Aadhaar or another accepted identity document.
  3. Log in and select the application link for Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026.
  4. Enter personal, educational, category and communication details exactly as recorded in the supporting documents.
  5. Upload or capture the required photograph and signature in the prescribed format. Follow SSC’s live photograph instructions, if applicable.
  6. Select the preferred examination centres and review post eligibility before confirming the form.
  7. Pay the application fee, where applicable, and submit the application before the closing time.
  8. Download the final application form and fee receipt. Applicants should also monitor their regional SSC website for application status, city details and admit card updates.

Corrections should be made only during the official application correction window. Incorrect claims relating to age, qualification or category may result in cancellation at the document-verification stage.
