Overview

The Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu, will conduct the TNEA 2026 counselling process for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes offered by participating institutions across the state. The schedule covers the Round 1 provisional allotment and Round 2 choice-filling process; this is an admission exercise, so there are no recruitment posts, while the total number of available seats will be shown in the official seat matrix.

Candidates registered for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions should regularly check their login dashboard at tneaonline.org. Allotment will be based on the candidate's rank, reservation category, choices submitted and seat availability.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • The qualifying examination should include Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or the subject combination permitted under the applicable TNEA admission rules.
  • Applicants must satisfy the prescribed minimum aggregate marks for their category.
  • Eligibility is subject to verification of academic certificates, nativity documents, community certificates and other applicable records.
  • Candidates should consult the official information brochure for branch-specific, category-specific and vocational-stream requirements.

Age Limit

  • No general upper age limit is ordinarily prescribed for most TNEA engineering programmes.
  • Age conditions may apply to specific courses or institutions under separate admission rules.
  • The date of birth recorded in the candidate's qualifying certificate will be considered during verification.

Fees

  • Registration and counselling fees must be paid online, where applicable.
  • The payable amount may differ by candidate category and will be displayed on the portal.
  • College tuition, admission and refundable deposit charges are separate from the counselling registration fee.
  • Candidates should retain the online payment receipt for future reference.

Selection Process

  1. Rank and eligibility assessment: Candidates are considered using their normalised Class 12 marks, published rank, community category and applicable reservation rules.
  2. Choice filling and seat allotment: Eligible candidates enter and lock their preferred colleges and courses. The system processes these choices based on rank, priority and available seats.
  3. Confirmation and admission: Candidates must accept the allotment option within the deadline, complete any required payment and report for admission or further counselling as instructed.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official TNEA portal at tneaonline.org.
  2. Open the TNEA 2026 candidate login and enter the registered email address or user ID and password.
  3. Check the counselling schedule, rank details, eligible round and current seat matrix before entering choices.
  4. For Round 2, select preferred colleges and engineering branches in order of priority. Add several realistic options to improve the possibility of allotment.
  5. Review the preference order carefully and lock the choices before the deadline. Save or print the locked-choice list.
  6. For Round 1, open the provisional allotment section and download the allotment order when released.
  7. Select the appropriate confirmation option, such as accepting the seat, opting for upward movement or declining the allotment, as permitted by the rules.
  8. Pay the required amount and report to the designated institution or facilitation centre within the stated period. Keep copies of the allotment order, payment receipt and original documents ready.

Candidates who fail to lock choices or confirm an allotment within the prescribed period may lose their opportunity in that counselling round.

FAQs

1. Is there a separate entrance examination for TNEA 2026?

No. TNEA counselling generally uses marks obtained in the qualifying examination and the published rank list rather than a separate entrance test.

2. Where can candidates download the Round 1 provisional allotment?

Candidates can download it from the allotment section of their login dashboard at tneaonline.org after it is released.

3. Can choices be changed after they are locked?

Choices usually cannot be modified after final locking or after the choice-filling deadline. Candidates should verify the college and branch order before submission.
