Overview

The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has released the notification for the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2026, the qualifying examination used for shortlisting candidates for various Group C recruitment drives in Uttar Pradesh. PET is not a direct recruitment examination; therefore, no fixed number of vacancies is attached to the notification, and post-wise vacancies will be announced separately.

Candidates seeking appointment to eligible UPSSSC posts should review the notification carefully and complete the online application within the prescribed schedule. A valid PET score may be required to appear in the main examination or subsequent selection stages for relevant recruitments.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have passed Class 10 or High School from a recognised board or institution.
  • Candidates holding higher qualifications, including Class 12, diploma or degree credentials, may also apply, subject to the conditions stated in the official notification.
  • The required qualification must generally be completed by the application closing date.
  • Applicants should enter their academic details exactly as recorded on their certificates and mark sheets.
  • Meeting PET eligibility does not automatically make a candidate eligible for every Group C post. Post-specific qualifications will apply when separate recruitment advertisements are issued.

Age Limit

  • The expected minimum age is 18 years.
  • The expected maximum age is 40 years.
  • Age will be calculated with reference to the cut-off date specified by UPSSSC in the detailed notification.
  • Upper-age relaxation will be available to SC, ST, OBC and other eligible categories of Uttar Pradesh under applicable government rules.
  • Candidates claiming relaxation must possess valid supporting certificates in the prescribed format.

Fees

  • General/OBC: ₹185, including the applicable processing charge.
  • SC/ST: ₹95, including the applicable processing charge.
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities: ₹25 as processing fee.
  • Payment can generally be made through the online facilities provided on the application portal.
  • Applicants should verify the category-wise fee and payment instructions in the notification before submitting the form, as a paid fee is normally non-refundable.

Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Eligibility Test: Applicants will appear for an objective-type written examination. The PET syllabus generally covers Indian history, the national movement, geography, the Indian economy and Constitution, general science, elementary arithmetic, Hindi, English, reasoning, current affairs, general awareness, data interpretation and passage analysis. Candidates should rely on the official syllabus for the final subject-wise distribution and marking scheme.
  2. Shortlisting for Main Examination: UPSSSC may use the normalised PET score to shortlist candidates for post-specific main examinations. The qualifying standard, score validity and number of shortlisted candidates will depend on the rules of each recruitment advertisement.
  3. Post-Specific Stages: Candidates qualifying for a particular recruitment may have to undergo a main written examination, skill or typing test, document verification and medical examination, wherever applicable. Final selection will be made under the conditions prescribed for that post.

How to Apply
