- Candidates from the General, General-EWS and OBC categories generally need at least 55% marks, while eligible reserved-category candidates receive relaxation under the applicable rules.
- Candidates pursuing a qualifying master’s programme may be permitted to apply provisionally, subject to completing the degree within the period specified in the information bulletin.
- Applicants with an eligible four-year bachelor’s degree may be considered for JRF or PhD admission under the conditions prescribed by the University Grants Commission and NTA. Such candidates may not automatically qualify for appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Subject-wise degree requirements must be checked in the CSIR UGC NET June 2026 information bulletin.
Age Limit
- For Junior Research Fellowship, the upper age limit is generally 30 years, calculated on the cut-off date stated in the bulletin.
- Age relaxation is available to eligible SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD, women and other specified categories under prevailing rules.
- There is ordinarily no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility or PhD admission.
- The June 2026 bulletin will confirm the final cut-off date and relaxation conditions.
Fees
- The category-wise examination fee for the June 2026 cycle will be specified in the official information bulletin.
- A separate non-refundable processing fee per challenged question may apply during the answer key objection window.
- Application and answer key challenge payments must be made online through the payment options available on the NTA portal.
Selection Process
- Computer-Based Test: Candidates appear for the CSIR UGC NET examination in their selected subject. Marks are calculated using the notified marking scheme, including negative marking where applicable.
- Answer Key and Objections: NTA releases the provisional answer key, question paper and recorded responses. Candidates can challenge specific answers by uploading supporting academic evidence and paying the prescribed fee.
- Final Key and Result: Subject experts review the objections. NTA then releases the final answer key and prepares the result based on the revised answers, qualifying criteria and applicable category-wise cut-offs.
