Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants must possess a degree or diploma in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university, institution or technical board.
  • The required engineering discipline depends on the Junior Engineer post and participating government department selected by the candidate.
  • Certain departmental posts may require relevant work experience when the candidate holds a diploma instead of an engineering degree.
  • Candidates must have completed the prescribed qualification by the eligibility cut-off date mentioned in the detailed recruitment notification.

Age Limit

  • The upper age limit is generally 30 years or 32 years, depending on the post and department.
  • Age is calculated as on the cut-off date specified in the recruitment notification.
  • Relaxation is available for SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, ex-servicemen and other eligible categories under central government rules.
  • Date-of-birth and category claims must be supported by valid certificates during document verification.

Fees

  • General, OBC and EWS male candidates: ₹100.
  • Women, SC, ST, eligible PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates: Exempted.
  • The fee is paid online using UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking.
  • Application fees, once paid, are normally non-refundable.

Selection Process

  1. Paper I: A computer-based objective examination covering General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and the relevant engineering discipline.
  2. Paper II: A technical examination assessing detailed knowledge of Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, as selected in the application form.
  3. Document Verification and Medical Examination: Shortlisted candidates must produce original eligibility documents and meet the medical or departmental requirements applicable to the allotted post.

Final selection is based on performance in the prescribed examinations, category-wise cut-offs, post preferences, document verification and the availability of vacancies.

Salary & Benefits

SSC Junior Engineer posts are generally placed in Pay Level 6, carrying a basic pay range of ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 under the Seventh Central Pay Commission. Appointees may also receive dearness allowance, house rent allowance, transport allowance, pension-related benefits and other admissible central government facilities, subject to their department and posting location.
